New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has considered and decided to work in five core areas to provide continuous support to residents in their daily lives, enhance data security, and play an important role in advancing the cause of good governance, as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Saturation of Aadhaar among the adult population is close to universal, said Friday.
It added that the five core areas are resident centricity, expanded usage of Aadhaar, security and privacy, continuous technological upgrades and the desire to work with and support the global economy.
Saurabh Garg, chief executive officer of UIDAI, said that the focus now and always will be on how to support residents to improve the convenience of life and improve their experience of using services.
The Authority is constantly exploring and adopting various ways to expand the use of Aadhaar for the convenience of life and business. “Its sandbox environment will allow start-ups, professionals and companies to explore and test innovative applications to increase the usage of Aadhaar. From expanding the adoption of e-KYC to popularizing offline verification to better serve residents, UIDAI Efforts will be made to expand the use of Aadhaar in various ways,” the ministry said.
It said Aadhaar has become a vehicle for good governance, empowerment and service delivery. “Since the generation of the first Aadhaar number in 2010, UIDAI has issued more than 1.35 billion Aadhaar and conducted more than 88 billion authenticated transactions to date, which shows how it is touching the lives of residents,” the ministry added.
UIDAI has also performed over 710 million Aadhaar updates at the request of residents since 2010. It is at the forefront of technology upgrades to further enhance data security and privacy, seamless service delivery, and proactively address new-age cybersecurity risks.
