Former AIADMK MP S. Selvakumara Chinnayan on Monday urged election officials to allow voters to vote in the by-election in the Erode (Eastern) parliamentary constituency provided they carry their booth slips along with an Elector Photo ID (EPIC) or Aadhaar card.
In a petition filed on Monday to Election Officer and Corporations Commissioner K. Sivakumar, he said voters should not be allowed to vote if they bring only their booth slips. “They should show their EPIC or Aadhaar card along with the stall slip, after which they should be allowed to exercise their franchise,” he added. The former MP wants to distribute booth slips to all voters 15 days before the Feb. 27 poll. He wants only government officials to distribute the stall sheets with the permission of the Returning Officer, not any individual or political party to do the work.
The petition also said that government officials distributing booth slips should be present at their respective polling stations on February 27 so that voters who did not receive them can pick them up on the spot.
